Saving the Planet--
One Acre at a Time!

The Des Plaines River Valley Restoration Project protects the environment by preserving natural habitat. We remove invasive aliens--non-native plants like buckthorn and garlic mustard--to make room for native plants, including threatened and endangered species.

It’s called ecological restoration and our goal is to increase biodiversity. For more information about us, click here.

We work in Cook County, Illinois, in the western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago. We work with public landowners like the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and municipal governments. We have restoration sites in Brookfield, Des Plaines, Hodgkins, LaGrange Park, Lyons, Oak Park, Riverside, Schiller Park, Westchester, and Western Springs.  For a map of sites in our region, click here.

We have a workday every weekend of the year, including this weekend. If you’re age 6 to 96, you can help.  No experience is needed; we provide the tools and the know-how. For a schedule of our workdays, click here.  For directions to a restoration site near you, click here.

I want to learn more! What if I have more questions about saving natural habitat?
I’d like to look at some
pictures of the natural beauty that is being restored!
Are there any
links to other environmental organizations in the Chicago area?
