We work in Cook County, Illinois, in the western and northwestern suburbs of Chicago. We work with public landowners like the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and municipal governments. We have restoration sites in Brookfield, Des Plaines, Hodgkins, LaGrange Park, Lyons, Oak Park, Riverside, Schiller Park, Westchester, and Western Springs. For a map of sites in our region click below.
Arie Crown Woods: On LaGrange Road, south of 67th Street. Enter on west side of LaGrange Road.
Bemis Woods South: On Ogden Avenue, between Wolf Road and I-294. Enter at the Forest Preserve sign, bear left, and continue as far as the driveway takes you, to the west end of the parking lot. Look for the “Volunteers” sign.
Brookfield Woods: On 26th Street at 7th Avenue. From First Avenue between Cermak and 31st Street, turn west on 26th Street and park at 7th Avenue. We meet here and walk south on the trail to the prairie.
Cermak Woods: From Harlem, take Joliet Road west (Joliet Road turns into 43rd Street). From Ogden, take Joliet Avenue south, turn left at 43rd Street. West of the Des Plaines River is Fisherman’s Terrace. Park at the baseball field.
Kiwanis Park: From Prairie Avenue where it crosses the Burlington Northern tracks (Brookfield train station), take Brookfield Avenue east to Village Hall. Park behind Village Hall and the restoration area is at the north end of the park.
Possum Hollow Woods: On La Grange Road and the north side of 31st Street. This site is a habitat called a "flatwoods", which means it's very wet, seasonally, and has a lot of different sedges. People should drive to the sign for Grove #2 and park there.
Riverside village sites: We work at different sites at different times. Call John Kolar at 708-447-9231 to see where we will be this week! firstname.lastname@example.org
I’d like to look at some pictures of the natural beauty that is being restored!
Are there any links to other environmental organizations in the Chicago area?
